JUVEDERM® Collection of Fillers
Reverse the signs of aging from mid-facial volume loss with the JUVÉDERM® Collection of Fillers.
JUVÉDERM® treatments performed in the comfort of our Philadelphia Norristown office reverse the signs of aging from mid-facial volume loss by restoring fullness and youthfulness around the lips, cheeks, nose, and mouth.
What is the JUVÉDERM® Collection of Face Fillers?
JUVÉDERM® is a family of injectable dermal gel fillers that helps to restore the appearance of youthfulness by using lip injections, face fillers, and wrinkle fillers to reverse the natural loss of volume from facial features that occur with age.
The very first JUVÉDERM® product was FDA-approved in 2006 for the treatment of facial wrinkles and folds. Riding on this success, additional products have since been added to the JUVÉDERM® line, each designed to sculpt a specific part of the face in a unique way. JUVÉDERM Voluma® XC is approved for injection into the cheek to correct age-related loss of volume in this area in adults over 21 years of age; both JUVÉDERM® XC and JUVÉDERM Vollure™ XC target moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds in adults over 21, including nasolabial folds (also known as smile or laugh lines around the nose to the outer corners of the mouth) while using slightly different technologies to address unique subtleties; JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC and JUVÉDERM Volbella® XC are both approved for different aspects of lip augmentation by injection, as well as for correction of perioral lines (wrinkles around the lip area) in adults over the age of 21.
The JUVÉDERM® gels are comprised mainly of hyaluronic acid combined with patented cross-linking technologies. The different gels vary in terms of their composition of hyaluronic acid and the method by which these molecules have been cross-linked, which tailors the viscosity and density for each filler’s specific purpose. Hyaluronic acid is naturally present in skin and is (at least in part) responsible for keeping the skin supple, plump, and youthful by retaining a high-water content.
How Long Does JUVÉDERM® last?
The JUVÉDERM® Collection of Fillers replenishes the skin’s stores of hydrating hyaluronic acid, restoring that full, contoured, youthful appearance of the face. Though hyaluronic acid dermal fillers tend to last for a shorter duration of time compared to synthetic fillers, JUVÉDERM®’s wrinkle fillers, face fillers, and lip injections are known to last up to two years in the cheek area.
The aging of the human skin is a complex biological process influenced by both internal factors such as the inevitable aging of the body and hormonal changes, as well as external factors including UV exposure, a process known as photoaging, which is thought to be responsible for about 80% of facial skin aging. Dehydration and loss of moisture plays a huge part in the aging of skin; we find significant changes to the concentration and moisture-retaining qualities of hyaluronic acid in older skin. This leads to loss of volume from the face and results in unwanted folds and wrinkles, causing a sagging tired, and aged appearance.
So, even if you’re feeling saggy, tired, and aged on the inside, there’s no reason you should look like it on the outside!
How will I know if I am a good candidate for JUVÉDERM® fillers?
If you’ve noticed a hollow, aged quality to your facial features over the years, or that your lips are no longer as full and plump as they used to be, Dr. Meghan Brooking, D.O., a facial plastics doctor and facial rejuvenation specialist, may be able to help restore your appearance of youth with JUVÉDERM® fillers.
Currently, the JUVÉDERM® Collection of Fillers is approved as a facial rejuvenation treatment only for adults over the age of 21 and each product is approved specifically to contouring a certain area of the face. A consultation with Dr. Brooking will determine which JUVÉDERM® product will best help you in achieving your aesthetic goals.
Patients with a history of severe allergic reactions to any of the components of the JUVÉDERM® fillers should not use this product. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should reconsider treatment with JUVÉDERM® during this time as the safety of JUVÉDERM® has not been determined for this group of people. If you are on immunosuppressive or blood-thinning medications, or have a history of excessive scarring, this should be discussed with Dr. Brooking before undergoing treatment with JUVÉDERM®.
Which is the best JUVÉDERM® filler for me?
Knowing which JUVÉDERM® filler is right for you will be addressed and answered during a face-to-face consultation with Dr. Meghan Brooking, D.O., an ENT doctor certified in facial rejuvenation. After a careful examination of your facial features and a discussion about your unique goals, whether it be sculpted cheeks or fuller lips, Dr. Brooking will be able to advise you on which areas require attention to achieve the look you want. During her consultation with you, it is important to disclose any relevant medical history, such as whether you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have experienced any adverse reactions to face or wrinkle fillers in the past.
What is the difference between JUVÉDERM® XC and JUVÉDERM Vollure™ XC if they both treat the same area?
Though both these fillers are used for the treatment of facial folds, particularly around the nose and mouth (known as nasolabial folds), the arrangement of hyaluronic acid in these gels are slightly different, giving them each unique properties. The composition of JUVÉDERM Vollure™ XC allows it to treat more severe facial folds as this gel can be injected more deeply into the tissue. However, while JUVÉDERM Vollure™ XC may be the filler of choice for one patient, JUVÉDERM® XC may still be the best option to achieve the facial rejuvenation goals for another. A consultation with Dr. Brooking is the only way to determine the optimal product for you.
What is the difference between JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC and JUVÉDERM Volbella® XC treatments for lip augmentation?
JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC and JUVÉDERM Volbella® XC are formulated slightly differently. While both are lip injections that reverse the signs of aging around the lips, they each address a different aspect. JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC tends to be used most successfully for simply plumping thin lips. Thin lips can be caused by either a loss of fullness from the aging process or genetics. The JUVÉDERM Volbella® XC filler provides a subtler fullness to the lips and is also used to smooth out vertical lip lines.
How long does JUVÉDERM® last?
Results will vary from individual to individual, both in the final effect and its longevity. For the longest lasting effects, it is important to seek treatment only with a qualified, experienced doctor, such as Dr. Meghan Brooking, D.O., and use only genuine JUVÉDERM® products.
JUVÉDERM Voluma® XC for the cheeks has been proven to last up to two years. JUVÉDERM® XC lasts up to one year, while JUVÉDERM Vollure™ XC with its different formulations may last up to 18 months. Both of JUVÉDERM’s lip fillers, JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC and JUVÉDERM Volbella® XC, are known to have long-lasting effects of up to one year. In addition, retreatment in patients a year later also found that a lower dosage was required to achieve the desired results.
What should I expect during my JUVÉDERM® treatment?
As with any injection into the skin, application of JUVÉDERM® face fillers may cause a little prick or sting. JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC for lip plumping contains an anesthetic called lidocaine, which provides temporary numbing to the area during the procedure. A topical numbing agent can also be administered to the area before the injection if you are feeling sensitive.
Depending on the number of treatment areas, administration of the JUVÉDERM® injectables can take up to half an hour and you should
How much does the JUVÉDERM® treatment cost?
As treatment with the JUVÉDERM® Collection of Fillers is tailored to each individual, the costs will vary from patient to patient. A consultation with Dr. Brooking, D.O. will determine which JUVÉDERM® products and dosages are best suited to target your problem areas and achieve your desired look, which will, in turn, determine the final costs.
What side effects might I experience after a JUVÉDERM® treatment?
The most common JUVÉDERM® side effects are related to the injection site and tend only to be mild. The time taken to resolve these reactions varies between products, typically between 2 to 4 weeks, and can usually be covered with makeup in the meantime. After a JUVÉDERM® treatment you may experience redness, swelling, or tenderness at the injection site, bruising, discoloration, itching, or bumpiness. There is also a risk of infection, as with all skin injection procedures, but this can be mitigated by having your treatments administered in a sterilized, controlled medical environment by an experienced facial plastics doctor and facial rejuvenation specialist, like Dr. Meghan Brooking, D.O..
A more serious, rare, complication is accidental injection of the filler gel into a blood vessel, which may result in severe outcomes, such as blindness or stroke. This is why it’s important to consider a doctor like Dr. Brooking to administer your JUVÉDERM® treatments.
